Niche marketing has been the battle cry of the internet marketing gurus for years now - however, I have seen where the "big site" is beginning to gain some attention, more as a long term goal. At least one guru has suggested starting with the niche but with a blueprint to turn that blog into a "big site" ... drawing traffic organically and developing a good reputation.
