I had a great strategy session with one of our members last week.
?Bob? was unclear as to where to focus his efforts. He had a passion for one thing, an interest in another and lots of experience and expertise in yet another area. He was thinking he needed to choose one of the three.
But with me asking a few questions and getting to understand his situation better, we were able to come up with a way to merge the three together. He now has a niche and a target market and will do work that will utilize his many talents. Still very focused, but combining and leveraging his knowledge, interest and passion.

Our daily needs are always continuously changing as our surroundings consistently change. Some things which may be valuable for us today, may no longer be necessary in the future. So products and services also need to offer new features to keep up with our growing needs. With that in mind, we can say that no matter what product you have to sell, there is sure to be someone out there to buy it.

I’m sure you can relate when the Internet marketing gurus throw at you their huge numbers. And then on top of that then make it seem so easy. Well if you can just put in a month or two of good work you can be earning some great money.
Finding a great niche… or hole in a market… is the first thing you have to worry about. And it doesn’t matter if you are that interested in it just yet. You have to make sure that there are people who pretty consistently buy products in that niche and then you have to make sure there are people selling things too. Otherwise it won’t work.

Successful marketing is the combined result of a number of clearly spelt-out strategies for identifying the target market, apart from other niche segments, and implementing them with conviction and commitment to both these steps, and the constituents of the market itself. The term target does specify the thrust areas to focus ones marketing efforts, but does not exclude others. The pattern or sequence of the thrust, applied one at a time, does perhaps ensure concentration of efforts and the feasibility to see positive results, for review and modification in the next target area.

To succeed in business, you need both a good target market, and a good product which that market wants. It is much easier (and cheaper) to find a good target market than to develop a product. So, it is best to first find a good target market, then to develop a product for that market. If you do it the other way around, there is a danger that after you have spent all that effort in developing your product, that there will be no market for it!
